How to write emails that people read.

Virgil, your emails are boring as fuck.

My mentor didn't hold back.

3,000 subscribers. 12% open rate, zero replies.

"I don't get it," I said.

"I'm sharing valuable content about building online businesses."

He pulled up my last email. Subject line: "5 Tips for Better Course Validation."

The email started: "Today I want to share five proven strategies for validating
your business idea before you build it."

Professional.
Valuable.
Clean.

The information was spot on.

It had no soul.

In short, boring AF.

Here's why my emails sucked

I was writing like my English teacher Tom.

My emails were tips and strategies.

No personality.
No stories.
No soul.

People don't connect with tips; they connect with people.

That was the day I started to learn to write.

And the concept I use today is ultra simple.

Let’s have a closer look.

A simple email formula that changed everything

Story + Lesson + Call to action.

That's it.

Tell a story about something that happened to you.

Share the lesson you learned.

And ask your reader to take action.

Now hold your horses.

This doesn’t mean that you need to sell in every email.

Read this article, or check this video is taking action as well.

Be human, and the rest will take care of itself.

That's what my mentor always used to say.

People buy from people they trust

You build trust through stories. Not tips.

Stop trying to sound smart. Start being real.

What's the most boring email you've sent recently that you could turn into a story?

Hit reply and let me know.

As you know, we're building Sucana. It's a platform for ad agencies. Helps them build, publish, analyse, and scale their ad campaigns. But during the building process... We lost the plot of what we were actually building. There was confusion everywhere. We put a deadline for ourselves. September 14th. Victor is launching a massive project for a big real estate company.Sucana is going to do all the heavy lifting. But yesterday we realised we're far from ready. So we jumped on a 3-hour call. It...

My dog Bumi was chewing on a towel. Weird habit, but whatever. While watching her, I opened my laptop to write this email. That's when it hit me. Six months ago, I was screaming:"AI will never replace human creativity!" I was convinced robots would ruin everything. That’s what you get when you watch too many Terminator movies. It started with one simple experiment.I asked ChatGPT to brainstorm email subject lines. The results were insane. So I tried another experiment. Before I knew it, AI...

Last week I did something that felt like cheating. I took everything I know about launching digital products.20 years of trial, error, and $10M in sales - and trained a custom AI. Here's the weird thing... I can launch anything for my clients. 6-figure campaigns, sold-out cohorts, you name it, I’ve done it. But when it comes to launching my own stuff? I freeze up like an idiot. You know the feeling, right? You're brilliant at solving other people's problems. But when it's YOUR business, this...
